Day 6: Samburu/Nanyuki, Mount Kenya

Embark on a scenic drive to Nanyuki and Sweetwaters Tented Camp, set in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy at the foot of Mount Kenya. One of only four private game conservancies in Kenya, this area affords privileged seclusion and private game viewing. A watering hole close to your tent draws giraffe for a cool morning drink — a magical sight glimpsed from your private veranda.
This is one of the largest sanctuaries in East Africa for endangered black rhino and the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzee, which you do on a visit to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary. An afternoon safari drive takes you across the vast savannah grasslands, a terrain favored by elephant. Later, attend a welcome dinner and safari briefing.

Day 7: Nanyuki/Masai Mara Game Reserve

Awaken to sounds of the unspoiled wilderness. After breakfast, board a flight across the Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, host to a spectacular, ever-changing array of wildlife. Running along the Tanzanian border, the Masai Mara forms Kenya’s northern extension of the Greater Serengeti ecosystem; when the annual migration takes place, more than a million wildebeest march north with zebra and gazelle to graze on the Mara’s lush grasses. Game follows ancient migration routes under the watchful eyes of lion, leopard and cheetah, who lie in wait of vulnerable prey.
The Mara’s 583 square miles of savannah, woodlands and tree-fringed rivers create an ecosystem that supports countless bird and mammal species. At the western reaches of the park is the Siria Escarpment, adjacent to acacia-dotted plains. Game viewing is never dull in the Mara, and patience is often rewarded with unique sightings, such as a pride of lion stalking prey, a solitary leopard retrieving its kill from the high branches of an acacia tree or a herd of elephant protecting their young from predators. This vast, open space is singular; merely to be here is to be inspired.
